In 2010 Ed Sheeran was invited by Example to be a support act in his 2011 tour. This was then closely followed by Jamie Foxx spotting Ed Sheeran in Los Angeles in "The Foxxhole" and inviting him to his house to record with him for the rest of his stay. His fanbase then started rapidly increasing due to the amount of gigs/open mics he was doing and his supporting act on Example's tour. Ed Sheeran then started his own tour around small venues in the UK in 2011(tour diary's part 1, 2 and 3 below).

I think that Ed Sheeran has created a tour diary because it gives his fans more information about himself and his tour from behind the scenes. Future listeners may also view his video diary and it may act as another form of promotion for his album and singles also. I think a good vlog contains clips of gigs, clips of recording and lots of extra information about how the album might have been recorded or produced.
