Studio Sessions

We all know that Ed is famous for using his loop pedal and did so in his breakthrough video for SBTV when he did a studio session for the song "You Need Me I Don't Need You." He records his voice and guitar over 1 or 2 bars a few times using various techniques to create layers for the melody/accompaniment of his song.

He has also done a studio session for the song wayfaring stranger by layering up his voice and creating harmonies for him to sing over throughout the song.

The video is below...

  2. Also,

Where were the remainder of the tracks from "+" recorded? Who else worked on the album?

You may want to check out the following:

  3. Do you know how he manages to layer the textures of the track? Do you like this style of recording? Why?

Are there any limitations to this method of recording?

  4. All the songs from Ed Sheeran's album "+" were recorded in Jake Goslings sticky studios. Other people who worked on the album were Gordon Mills Junior, Chris Leonard and Julie Frost. All these people contributed in some way to writing the songs for the album.

Ed Sheeran recorded this song by using a loop pedal which is fed back into recording equipment into the studio to record the song that he is playing. I like this style of recording because it enables you to add new and different parts to your recording. For example in Ed Sheerans case he has managed to recreate drums by beatboxing and creating a variety of harmonies for himself to sing over.

I think that there are certain limitations to recording in this way. First of all you have to get everything right and perfectly on time otherwise the whole song will begin to sound like a mess and you will have to start from square one.
